At 73 years old, Mahendran started lawn bowling and went for his first competition in 2022, where he placed 3rd in B4 Men's Singles, in the Asia Bowl for the Disabled 2022. Mahendran has been exposed to competition since his schooling days, when he was a runner. Despite being diagnosed with an eye impairment at 33 years old, he sees competing as something that is in his blood and he believes that age and physical disabilities should not stop anyone from representing the country. Mahendran wants to do the best he can and to win a medal and make his country and family proud. His philosophy is “To do the best in whatever I do.”
