Asyraf was involved in a motorcycle accident when he was 20 years old and suffered a spinal cord injury as a result. "Because I was an active person, it took me a long time to accept the fact that I was going to be in a wheelchair." He says the sport has helped him build up his confidence and made him a more social person. He picked up table tennis in 2014 on the encouragement of his friend who took him to the training venue, and was selected for the APG team for the 2015 Games in Singapore. He trains for four days a week, three hours each time. He also plays against able-bodied opponents, to work on his own movement.
